Muscatine 4th graders give microwave ovens to MCSA

Fourth-grade students at Colorado Elementary School today gave two new microwave ovens to MCSA. They made the presentation during a Leader in Me assembly at the school.

The students, who are taught by Casey Edkin and Brenda Stewart, raised about $125 to buy the microwaves, which were accepted by MCSA Executive Director Maggie Curry and Deputy Director Chris Steinbach.

The presentation wrapped up the assembly, which was emceed by guidance counselor Dave Schuler. He kicked off the assembly by introducing Muscatine Mayor DeWayne Hopkins.

The mayor led the students in dancing “The Twist.” He then answered questions from students and spoke about writer Sean Covey’s “7 Habits of Happy Kids,” which is teaching tool used in the Leader in Me program in the Muscatine Community School District’s elementary schools.
