MCSA Books
The book tells the story of a boy and his mother moving into the shelter. Boots the cat gives him a tour and makes him feel comfortable. Charla Schafer, past Executive Director of MCSA, stated “We are pleased to have this book available for the children that stay in the shelter. It was designed to alleviate some of the uncertainty around their transition.”
MCSA volunteer, Becky Whitmore, conceptualized the book and wrote the story. She worked with local artist, and former MCSA resident, Chris Anderson to bring the story to life with the illustrations.
Books are available for sale online or at MCSA for $20.

Becky Whitmore, MCSA volunteer, has completed “Rusted from the Rain” - a project of current and former residents of MCSA. “This compelling anthology of poems and essays reflect their determination of spirit and unwavering strength. These honest words echo their harsh realities, their search for identity and hope, and their feelings of pride in knowing their words have value”.
Books are on sale online or at MCSA for $10.
All proceeds go to further educational opportunities for MCSA clients.
